Excellence abounds at THA! Each year, The Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona requests students, parents, faculty and employees nominate a teacher for our annual Excellence in Education Award. The award was established at JCF by Robyn Kessler and Martha Sampson through an endowment to recognize a faculty member who our community believes goes above and beyond the routine level of excellence in our teaching corps.
The recipient of the award for 2018 was none other than our Upper School Language Arts teacher Ms. Windy Jones (highlighted in the Lions Roar Teacher Feature earlier this year). The Talmud frames what a day in Ms. Jones’ classroom is like, stating, “Only the lesson which is enjoyed can be learned well.” One of her peers described her classroom as, “… a hub of activity during lunch…” and that she has “… her fingers in every pie…” as a leader and mentor. A parent stated that, “… being an ally to middle school students in their social/emotional lives is what makes Ms Jones very special and important to THA.”
This amazing acknowledgment echoes the words of our core values. "High expectations of students, staff, and faculty are fundamental to our philosophy and approach. We strive to ensure our graduates are prepared to excel in Tucson’s most challenging high schools." Ms. Jones assures every day that our students thrive in an environment in which their love of learning is enhanced, they are respected and cared for as unique individuals, and academically stretched and challenged with strong support. Congratulations Ms. Jones!
